"What is Zeydan Karalar doing in Istanbul?"

CHP Malatya Deputy Veli Ağbaba visited Adana Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Zeydan Karalar, who was arrested during operations targeting CHP municipalities and is being held in Marmara Prison in Silivri, Istanbul.

Making a statement in front of the prison after the visit, Ağbaba said that Karalar conveyed his greetings and respect to all the people of Adana and expressed his satisfaction with the solidarity.

"THE FILE WAS SENT TO KÜTAHYA"

Ağbaba, stating that there is a dual, triple, even five-fold legal system in Türkiye, and that a different legal system operates for those supporting the government and for those supporting the CHP, noted the following:

"An investigation is being launched into five municipalities under the same file. One of these is the Kütahya Municipality. The other is the Seyhan Municipality. The mayor of Seyhan Municipality from 2014 is being tried in Istanbul. However, the Kütahya Mayor is a member of the MHP, and the mayor's file is being separated and sent to Kütahya. This is unacceptable. This is not legal. An investigation is being launched regarding a tender held in Adana in 2014, 2015. A file from 7 years ago.

"DIFFERENT LAW IN IZMIR, ADANA, ISTANBUL, KUTAHYA"

But for some reason, while Adana courts should be trying them, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is attempting to prosecute them, and they are being detained. Such a legal system is unacceptable. Similarly, an operation took place in Izmir last week. An indictment was issued in Izmir very quickly. In Istanbul, despite 137 days having passed, no indictment has been issued against Ekrem İmamoğlu and his colleagues.

There's a different law in Izmir, a different law in Adana, a different law in Kütahya, and a different law in Istanbul. Unfortunately, the law is being used as a sword to silence dissidents and Republican People's Party members. There's still an investigation into Ekrem İmamoğlu. Fields are still being dug up. There's nothing to show for it.

"THE FILE SHOULD BE SENT TO ADANA"

Ağbaba, stating that Karalar regularly made payments to the company mentioned in allegations regarding his time as Seyhan Mayor, said, "Therefore, no crime of extortion has occurred. Zeydan Karalar's detention here is illegal, unlawful. Look, what is Zeydan Karalar doing in Silivri Prison? What is Zeydan Karalar doing in Istanbul? If he is to be tried, the place where he will be tried is Adana. What has been done to the elected mayor of Adana is oppression, injustice, and unlawfulness. Therefore, Zeydan Karalar's file must be sent to Adana immediately. And without even an hour's delay, the will of Adana cannot be imprisoned. Zeydan Karalar must be tried without detention. Look, we are not saying he shouldn't be tried. He must be tried without detention. We are exposing this legal system to all our citizens in Türkiye."
